I guess I really don't get the backlash against achievements in this thread so far. I understand that there are a lot of people that don't care about them, but they are a major feature for many gamers out there, and the Wii U not having a unified achievement system like PSN/Xbox is a big deal to them.

What boggles my mind is why people are actively speaking against achievements and a unified system on Wii U. Xbox and PS3 both allow you to turn off notifications if you don't want to hear about achievements/trophies ... it is as though they are not there at all so they really can't bother you.

It is like if I said that there should be no JRPG's on the Wii U because I happen to think they are a waste of time and not enjoyable in the least. JRPG's are not at all important to me, but I at least understand that many people do like them. They also don't affect me in any way really, and I would prefer that the system would have them even though I don't like them just so that more people can enjoy the Wii U.

No one is forcing me to buy JRPG's and no one is forcing people to keep their achievement notifications on. Wii U without achievements is just one more advantage the competition has over Nintendo, and I think it would be silly to omit them since it can not possibly be that challenging to implement them (Sony even did it post launch).
