Why do so many people want achievements to be mandatory? Developers who want to have achievements will have them. Developers who don't want to have achievements won't be forced to shoehorn them into their games against their will. Achievements only add to the experience if the developers want them to, anyway -- look at Smash Bros Brawl, Metroid Prime Trilogy, Kid Icarus Uprising. In most games they're completely meaningless.
