To the Phils, the Yanks are the team that swept the Whiz Kids, preventing them from winning what would have been their first ever World Series. It had been 35 years since the Phils had won the pennant, and it would be another 30 before they would win it again. To the Yanks, the Phillies are just a team they defeated twice while accumulating their 27 championships. Let's see some videos showing Nintendo bashing Genesis and I'll reconsider. |

Anyway, the Megadrive/Genesis released ahead of the Super Famicom/Super Nes and for a while, it really was a rivalry. In the end, it was obvious that Nintendo had the more capable system though it was tough to develop for in the beginning. Sega abandoned the Genesis early and the Snes got support even after the PS1/Saturn released. That's why it looks like Nintendo handed Sega their asses (and why gamers didn't trust Sega after the Genesis). At the time, it wasn't the case. Imagine if Microsoft quit making Xbox 360's right now but the PS3 was still selling well three years later. That's basically what happened in the 16-Bit era.
Also, I'd like to point out that it wasn't just Sega taking jabs at the competition. EVERYBODY was talking smack at the time. Neo Geo guys were bashing 16-Bit guys. Turbo-Grafx ads were bashing Sega CD (look up Johnny Turbo). It was a battle royale with two guys stealing the show.
