So ... World War II didn't happen because the Allies won?  I hope you understand how silly that is.

SNES ended up with a big lead but most of it was simply by outlasting the Genesis.  Although, to be fair, [edit:  the Genesis] also had a head start, so you could say the whole battle was one of the SNES trying (ultimately successfully) to defeat the Genesis, which was then in the process of defeating the NES.  But believe you me, the rivalry was there.  Did you even look at the videos lewis posted?

Bolded -- completely unrelated to what I was talking about. That wasn't a business and fandom rivalry, it was an actual war people died in. "It's not a rivalry if you lose" is something I've heard more associated with sports rivalries, and I used it for exaggeration in my post. Maybe you didn't catch the part where I actually called the SNES/Genesis rivalry legendary. In other words, SNES vs Genesis was less of a rivalry because it had a clear frontrunner and ultimate winner. PS3 vs 360 is way more interesting from a sales perspective.

And no, I didn't look at any videos. I've seen the old Nintendon't commercials. I had a Genesis. I was mocked in gradeschool for my N64 and my GameCube. I'm well aware of how ugly console wars can get. PS3 vs 360 is far more interesting than any before. PS2 vs XBox wasn't a war, it was a massacre. PS1 curbstomped the N64. SNES vs Genesis is the only one that came close, but it didn't really come close.
