SEGA Megadrive did exceptionally well in Europe (and more so in the UK)
Nearly all my buddies had a SEGA Megadrive (of course a fair few of us owned both a SEGA Megadrive and a Super Nintendo Entertainment System)
The biggest factor for us though was........when it came to multiplayer, we played a lot more multiplayer games on the SEGA Megadrive than we did the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (Streets of Rage sessions, Micro Machines, Eternal Champions, Sonic 2 special stage battles, Mortal Kombat "with proper fatalities, unlike the SNES version" PGA tour golf 2, Road Rash, Street Fighter II: Special Champion Edition and so on)
I can completely understand why folks may prefer one over the other, botttom line is that i loved both immensely, and both will always be LEGENDS amongst me and my buddies, but the SEGA Megadrives library overall appealed more to me.
