8-17 olds

"The Wii was on 32% of wish lists, the Sony PlayStation 3 on 19% and Microsoft Xbox 360 on 17%."

"As for game systems, Nintendo Wii was the most popular among kids ages 8-13, as well as all girls up to age 17, while Sony PlayStation 3 came out on top for boys ages 14-17."

Why does everyone here assume kids nowadays play a minor role within the gaming industry? Didn't you play video games as a kid?

That about fits with the overall rate they're selling at, if not less so - the Wii is currently selling more than twice as many units as either of its competitors...  Therefore, it means that they have a roughly proportional segment of that population.

And I think the "a few grandparents drag up the age" is invalid.  How many grandpas & grandmas do you really think own a Wii?  It would take more than a scattered couple thousand to make a significant impact - and even a couple hundred thousand would only bring up the total by a year or two.

I think all you showed there was that teenage boys think the PS3 is cool.
