God of War: Chains of Olympus, a successful prequel, made by SSM + Ready at Dawn and scored in the 90-95 range, sold around 3 million on the PSP when it launched on a very small install base, when GoW wasn't as huge and the platform is plagued by piracy.
God of War: Ascension; The a successor to the multi-award winning game that scored in the 90-95 range, sold 5+ million in 2 years even though it launched when the PS3 install base was half of what it is now, released in March, had terrible marketing and miniscule bundling... God of War: Ascension is launching under much better circumstances and Sony might actually advertise and massively bundle the game like they did to help Uncharted 3 sell well. God of War: Ascension will be biggest GoW yet, 3 million lifetime is just daft.
Firstly, none of the 3 main games scored less than the 90-95 range and are in fact the top 3 highest rated and best-selling games in their genre of all time so why would God of War: Ascension score significantly less when it's going to be the best and most content rich God of War yet? It'll score in the 90-95 range.
Secondly, God of War II launched on the PS2 after PS3 had already been out over a year, that still sold 4.2 million copies and the franchise is much bigger now than it was then.
Your predictions are unwise to say the least.
What I think:
- Its average score will be in the 90-95 range (like it matters now that GoW is so huge, millions of fans will buy it regardless).
- It will sell 1.75-2 million first week, 3 million in the first 10 weeks, 4-4.25 million by the end of the first year, 1 million in 2014, 650k in 2015 and 450k in 2016 then about half every year after that until it stops selling. God of War III will reach about 6+ million (It's only been out just over 2 years and it's at 5.2m, another 800K + is very possible) and God of War: Ascension will reach about 6.5 million.
