One of Naughty Dogs founders doesn't really promise too much. Wouldn't that potentially also be one of the reasons the Crash Bandicoot series was let go? Or was that Sony themself? I can never remember...

The Crash series was let go because Sony and Naughty Dog were only under a contract for three (or 4, if you count the racing one) games. Once that contract was over, I guess ND wanted to move on to another game (in this case, Jak and Daxter for the PS2).
