No, no it cant. If it could be done then much more games would use it. Have you ever used the mic with splinter cell chaos theory? it barely ever worked.

yes it can, the difference is how much resource is dumped into the project, kinect is not worth the price if it's just a voice rec tool.

In order to do it for all these games the developers would need to create their own speech recognition api, and dedicated a bit of power to that system. With Kinect that is all of that is already done.
