Neogaf's hate for this site seems to come from a fight with ioi and then attacking his statistics. Seems to have filtered down through the members there. Where citing vgchartz is now a bannable offence.
For this site I think a lot of the hate towards neogaf has simply come from people who like this site and understand that although it isn't 100% accurate yet that it is constantly trying to improve and be a useful resource. Thus find the outright hatred from neogaf to be unfair.
Personally I like both sites and they both have their strengths and weaknesses.
Vgchartz is a good indicator for early sales and a good database. The forums are generally more positive if at times a little more hot tempered. There aren't many original leaks, some users are less informed etc. However it has quite a good friendly community side and mods do a good job.
Neogaf has good leaks, some very good inside posters and in general very good moderating. The general user there seems a bit more clued in on the state of things. However the site is often either so negative it is toxic or gets ridiculously over-hyped about the wrong thing (for example with Soul sacrifice there was some really cool looking gameplay shown, yet 99% of users just ignored it and talked about how great the concept art was and how they hoped the game looked like that....we could already see the game).
They are also often comically stuck in the traditional gamer ways of motion controls don't count, casual games don't count etc etc. The mods there sometimes also totally mess up. Stealth trolls will be allowed to post forever but people who are always looking on the bright side will be banned.
I stopped looking at any threads on GAF related to the Wii U because they all seemed to devolve into saying Nintendo sucked and were too casual. Even when good things are announced people are negative there. My favourite being the Wii U controller acting as a universal remote, and there were users complaining that you could buy a separate one if you wanted anyway. One guy even said you could get a great quality one for $50...... it's an extra feature, you could buy a separate one but if you have a Wii u you won't need to.
So yea both sites have their good and bad sides. Personally I like to use Gaf to check for news, speculation, insider info etc. But then like to come to vgchartz to actually discuss something.
