Yeah I actually like my games linear from time to time, and Alan Wake's story just wouldn't work as well in an open environment.

Agree 100%. Why anyone would want Wake to be open world is beyond me. 

I beg to differ. Open world with that gorgeous Pacific Northwest setting would be a perfect with AW. True the story telling elements of these cinematics games will be gone, but the exploration of this amazing setting will more than compensate for that.
