Reggie doesn't die. Just Nintendo fakes his execution at E3, and Microsoft decides to one up Nintendo by executing Ballmer within a year. Then, after Ballmer is gone, Nintendo show Reggie is alive and well...
Ok, I just realized this probably doesn't goes as well, because then Microsoft resurrects Ballmer from the dead, trying to one up Nintendo.
