For the longest time I thought that I was the only one who felt that way. Sephiroth is undoubtedly the coolest villain, but that doesn't automatically make him the "best". Even more, I found him far more interesting when he was a hero before he turned villain.

You aren't the only one.  remember, the more popular something is, the higher the chances are that someone will hate it irrationally.  Final Fantasy VII is super duper popular, so by default there are millions of people who hate it just because.  shouldn't be hard to find someone who agrees that Sephiroth isn't that great of a villain.

Excellent point. Maybe I should say unbiasly agree with me, or something to that degree. I don't hate FFVII, or even Sephiroth for that matter. I just feel that Sephiroth is a somewhat overrated villain, as he is exceptionally high value in some areas, he is rather generic in others. He seemed so interesting and brilliant when Cloud was telling his past about Sephiroth, but when you confront him at Northern Crater (disk 2) he is a rather cliche villain. Ironically enough, they hit the nail on the head when they presented Sephiroth as a mysterious villain. You simply catch a glimpse of him walking away, then he's gone. It was when they directly exposed his character--him directly talking to Cloud as the villain--he was exposed rather generic. I liked Sephiroth much more early on when I knew less about him. Kefka on the other hand, the more I was exposed to him, the more I liked him--or perhaps loved to hate him.
