8 because its running windows 8 and will be like windows phone 8 and tablet 8 etc.... all pushing the idea of simple platform across all hardware.

8 could also be part of the earlier rumor of it being called infinity (turn the 8 on its side).

Well that first idea sounds like bollocks to me. Consoles are 5-year deals, at the very least, the 360 probably won't see a successor until 2013 at the earliest, at which point it'll have been on the market for 8 years. Why name a console after an OS that will likely be replaced within 2 years or so? :/
