I don't really see who can anyone be surprised by what CVG did, it's a very bad yet common practice in some Internet sites.

They create controversy so more people will visit their site to learn what's all about. It's a shame and repulsive, something that really shows the difference between gaming "journalists" and professional ones, although not all gamings related sites nor gaming journalists act this way, thankfully.

But that's no excuse for Crytek nor anyone else. This is a known problem, so developers, publishers and the rest of the industry know about this practice and should take measures to avoid them. If you have a PR department, let them take care of the media or at least be smart enough to have one of them when someone from the developer team/director/ whatever gets interviewed.
