http://www.joystiq.com/2010/03/13/fable-2-episodic-experiment-deemed-massively-successful-by-mol/ Actually Fable series on 360 alone without Fable: Heroes and digital copies outsold Killzone series and InFamouse series combined. You get the idea. And we need to stop with "Game X / studio X does not count, because they make only Kinect/downloadable games". I own 7 Kinect games I spent about $300 on and I enjoyed them for the most part. How can these titles not count?! And don't get me started with downloadable games. I had some of the best gaming experiences of this generation thanks to downloadable titles! (Braid, Plants vs Zombies, Risk, Shadow Complex, Sonic classics, Monkey Island, Splosion Man, Trials etc). I personally don't like LBP at all. It is a plattformer with a map-editor. I have seen this back in 1996 and to me it is not innovative at all. Of course the share online is new, but 99.9% of the user generated content really sucks. But that is just IMO. I would never tell anybody that does not like the game that it does not count. MS hired a lot of talent in the past 24 months and I can't wait to find out, what they are working on. On the other hand, Sony lost 2 first party and 1 second party studio. Zipper and BigBig are gone and Insomniac is multiplat now. |
The Fable series has been one of the most bundled series for the 360, surely you aren't serious? and yes, Killzone has been bundled but not that much at all. Microsoft is killing Fable. I hear more and more from most of its fans how much gets taken away which each game and how each sequel fails to live up to the hype. Now by destroying their IP with a casual downloadable game and a kinect game for a core gamer franchise, it won't be long before Fable is done. Plus, Peter is gone anyways.
Are these studious meaningless? No never said that and obviously for the casual market it's of great benefit but MS has wasted far too much money on casual development studios when they need core games! Despite the success of the Kinect, Microsoft isn't ever going to compete with Nintendo for the casual market....ever. While they have been screwing themselves over by ignoring the core games and establishing IP's, Sony continues to win over the core games with the sheer amount of exclusives, IP's and support for core games.
Also, LittleBigPlanet is hailed for it's innovation. It's a platform to make games, not just a casual game that holds zero value to any core gamer.
