Yeah, compared to the PS2, it is a failure.

But then again, compared to the PS2 every other console is also a failure.

Why don't we compare it to other 3rd place consoles across other generations? I'd say it's pretty damn successful.

Or better yet, why compare it to any console at all? Why not look at it's own install base, profitability, etc to determine if it's a success/failure.

Using your advice, we'd only prove that the PS3 is the most successful failure. That's analogous to being the healthiest person with super obesity.

All consoles have their successes and failures.

The Gamecube and Nintendo 64 sold very little yet were profitable for Nintendo. Does that makes those systems more successful than the PS3?

I don't think so. The PS3 has accomplished and overcome so much more. Will most likely end up 2nd for this gen of consoles.

Exactly why I said don't compare it to other consoles. Simply use factors about the console to determine if it was more of a success/failure for Sony.

Now, is it a failure? Some people like to focus on install base. Some on financials. Some on developer support. etc. You'll probably never reach a consensous, so I don't care for that discussion.
