its good business sense after all and ultimately that's what matters

It's bad business. Sooner or later people will move on to other platforms which are actually giving them new gaming experiences.

You think Microsoft can launch and sustain a new console with just more Forza and Halo + Kinect and 3rd party support? Sooner or later people will get tired of that.

NEW IPs are needed. If MS is cares about gamers they are developing some new IP for Xbox 720. If they were smart they'd launch new IPs on 360 and carry that momentum over to the 720.

Ok this is interesting.

"Sooner or later" is funny given the console is in its 7th year, which is impressive in itself.

New gaming experiences? Well between retail, motion, and XBLA 360 has so far in 2012 more games not on PS3 then vise versa. Not to mention 360 has a sizable lead on games rated above 70-79, 80-89, and even 90+ on metacritic.

MS DID launch a console based on Forza, Halo, Gears....only recently with kinect. Its now year 7 and its still working. Thing is some people only see gaming in the realm of exclusives......neglecting that 90%+ of a library is multiplats. Real gamers just buy games regardless of platform availability and 360 is generally regarded as the multiplatform console of choice.

New IPs? Like Starhawk? Sorry to strike a low blow like that but new IPs are only relevant as the number of gamers asking for them. With MS they stick with what works and use the 3rd party devs to take risks with new IPs like with Fez and Trials Evolution.

Thing is MS is just trying to please everybody at once and offcourse the gamers are gonna feel left out. But thats the price you pay for success...you expand.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.
