I wouldn't imagine so. Nintendo admitted their mistake with high-costs with the 3DS, and wanted to remedy that with a good cost and a good launch-lineup. It's the cost of the tablet controller which will cost ya I think.

Sure, high costs relative to portable consoles and its indirect competitors (smartphones/tablets/etc).

However, on a home console $300 is quite common and not too high.

Exactly.  The PS2 flew off of shelves at $299.  It's not too expensive at all for a new console launch, and Nintendo has already stated that WiiU will cost more than what the Wii launched for.  I think anywhere between $299 and $349 is almost a certainty.

OT:  Well, we know that all of the 3rd party games we already know about will be there in full effect (Darksiders 2, AC3, Rayman, etc), but I hope and pray for a surprise Bioshock Infinite announcement.  Also, we know that Rockstar won't be exhibiting at E3, but could Nintendo have secured a surprise announcement with the company for the press conference for GTAV WiiU?  I think it's possible.

Regarding 1st party games, we know about Pikmin 3 which should make excellent use of the controller, and the Chase Mii/Battle Mii/etc games from last year.  All indications point to some kind of Mario title at the show, and hopefully Miyamoto's new IP and Retro's new game (PLEEEEASE be a new Prime) will be there as well.
