I am highly dubious of this story. It is entirely counter intuitive based on the policies enacted by Microsoft previously. This would amount to letting the captive audience go especially if said functionality was provided freely. After all it would be far more advantageous for users not to subscribe to gold, and instead go to providers directly. To put it in other terms such a move would make Gold entirely superfluous. As compared to now where it is almost totally superfluous.
Can we be frank Microsoft charges a premium for what is free everywhere else. Seeing as they don't actually have the initiative to generate their own unique content as part of their subscription service, and instead choose to ask gamers to pay for what amounts to a crappy hub to access shit they already paid for. How is it at all likely that they will opt to do something fair, and in the process kill off their little hostage situation.
That is rhetorical of coarse. They are not going to give you an explorer at least this generation. It isn't that I'm that jaded. I would love Gold to be worth it, because Gold has things I couldn't get anywhere else, but Microsoft just hasn't shown any desire to create anything. Instead deciding to just control the access. They make Billions by just collecting tolls. Can anyone explain to me why they would give up the Gold.
It isn't that I wouldn't love the option, but I know better then to expect anything even remotely altruistic to come out of Microsoft. A web browser would only diminish the profitability of their rackets.
