But say you're used to paying $500 a month for rent which is really cheap then the landlord ups your rent to $1500 a month the next month.  The new rent isn't that bad but having that increase suddenly can break you financailly.  

 

Edit:  Nevermind, I thought it was a sudden increase not a gradual increase.  It doesn't seem that bad to have it increase over 5 years.
