Long term.
Who the hell wants to shell out 350 bucks every 3 years?
it might not seem alot as it is every 3 years, but if each company made a console and you wanted games on all plats, it can get reallllllly expensive.
Even if you stuck to one company, if you want a handheld to it would be like 720$ for both consoles and 2 games.
