Sony is forgetting that all of its successful products were game changers. New technology and software services are great but only when they are new. Sony went from a company that pioneered new technologies and always brought new experiences to the fore front. Sony was never successful at copying other big companies ideas.
The PSOne and PS2 were not successful because they had cutting edge graphics. They were successful because not only did they pioneer CD and DVD in gaming they had the software and experiences that gamers wanted. Yes CD came to consoles long before PSOne but Sony was the first to do it right. Sony took a massively successful business and threw it out the window with PS3 and PSP. They saw GameCube and Xbox and thought "Hey look at these guys they are using cutting edge graphics" and rather then stick to a successful model they changed trying to be something they werePlayStation was never a high end games machine.
I see Sony following all of the leaders today. Bluray was a great idea but since then what is Sony actually leading in? Sony is trying to be their competitors, rather then create their own successful new products they are often ripping off competitors or following trends rather then making trends.
Sony needs to focus on hardware as well as software. I would agree Sony isn't streamlining their product lines. Their is no need for 20 TV models in a year. Or for five phones, their is no need for a graphical super power PS4.
Sony needs to worry more about creating the next big hit. If they take a couple hits on new ideas so be it. But their current business model is suicide!
