I wish people would separate Japan as a whole issues and Sony specific issues. Today and the past couple weeks have been Japan specific issues as the country is very export driven and the prospect of global growth in the coming quarters are coming down and even worse with the added rise of the yen.

Just today:

Konami corp -17.54%
Namco Bandai -9.49%
square enix -4%
Capcom -6.59%
Sega Sammy -3.15%
Tecmo Koei -3.15%
Nintendo -3.07%

hmmm, ok... well the OP did that to extent , did you read it properly?

BUT there is simply no getting away from this....

Nikkei 225 over 5 yrs DOWN 50%

Sony over 5 yrs DOWN 80%

Also.. why are you comparing companies with very, very narrow interests with Sony Corp?  apples and oranges.

While your OP did "to an extent", it would have been nice to see the drop in context. Without this context, the article comes off very sensationalist.

I know I know, it's "just the facts" and "they should have done something to prevent this" etc etc, but from an objective standpoint, when I read the article in itself, it really comes off poorly for Sony. Upon the inclusion of market numbers, it seems like more of a market wide drop.

In that difference alone, criticism on the focus of the article is entirely justified.

Toshiba is down 3.2%, Panasonic is down 4.5%, fujitsu 3%, hitachi 4.88%

So even your "also" above, calling the references "apples and oranges" is just another detour.

What do you do again for work? Shouldn't you be at it right now? Surely your economics expertise and ability to spin should be going towards something a little more fruitful than posting negative articles about Sony.

one last thing.... Why does it make it better if the article or I say yes all Japanese maifacturing is screwed?  That makes it better somehow?

and in respect of this forum... I wasnt aware that Panasonic, Toshiba, Sharp, Fujutsu and Hitachi where involved in gaming?

Bllomberg wrote the artice, Bloomberg chose to major on Sony... take it up with them...  or... just perhaps... you are being over sensitive... you think?

Hmm, yes, the article becomes more "informative" when there is more information relating to the topic at hand. For example, an article on how poorly cheese is doing in france wouldn't be so much of a concern to me until I read a sentence indicating the importance. Clearly, one should be informed of things related to the topic at hand ANYWAY, but it's still important to lay out the context, much as it's important for researchers to explain the context of a study.

Second sentence. OK, but be aware that you're treading a very fine line in terms of context because you're basically saying Sony is a single apple in a sea of oranges. Or perhaps it's a cherry? This brings it back to the terms of context where one is able to look at a situation and say, OK, this makes sense given the overall market. When you isolate something and refuse to acknowledge the context, dismissing the capability of saying, "well X company over here is doing it right", then one of your initial statements of "people cannot keep putting thsi down to bad luck" becomes an eyesore....it's not really honest is it?

I know Bloomberg wrote the article. This is perhaps one of my reasons for saying "posting articles" or referring to the OP as "an article".

But sensitive, hmmmm this is an interesting notion. Wasn't it you who once said "I care about the truth and the facts", or something like that? Perhaps I am also affected by FUD, and mistakenly, on the more than willing false prophets who herald them? My apologies to you.
