1) It's not going to happen, because stereoscopic 3D is just a visual effect. The system is 15 months old and there isn't even a sign of such software yet. Compare that to the DS which by that point in time already had games that justified the touch screen.

2) You are really grasping at straws. There's simply no reason to believe that a gaming handheld will become popular for being able to play movies.

3) Animal Crossing wasn't cherry-picked. I just pointed out that your description was wrong.

I am basing the staying power off of sales. I mean, how can you even overlook this? 2D Mario, Mario Kart and Pokémon have prevailed for generations, so they have nothing to prove anymore. Meanwhile, Nintendogs and Brain Training won't repeat their previous level of success.

You can talk about the touch screen as much as you want, but that won't change the fact that stereoscopic 3D adds nothing worth of note to gaming. I don't know why we are even talking about the touch screen and 3D as if they were similar. They are not. One has value while the other clearly has not. Your entire argument pro-3D boils down to: "It may be worthless now, but it could be useful one day. You never know." Hope, that's all you got.

3D is an expensive feature with minimal value. It was a bad decision to include it, because it hurt Nintendo much more than it helped. Remember, it's because of this feature that Nintendo's cash reserves are drained. It shouldn't even be up for debate whether or not 3D was a bad decision, because it's so obvious that it was a bad decision.

1. Yes, due to Nintendo's own failure to leverage 3D properly.

2. As aforementioned I could say pretty much the same thing vice-versa

3. Erm. . . what? Staying power? I understand you've conceded the initial point that the touch screen was integral to the DS's success, so don't try to morph this point into something else. I cited the likes of Nintendogs and Brain Training to illustrate that, if capatilised on with great software, a console's USP can create a market for software that rivals that of their biggest established franchises. Whether they ever sell another copy or not is irrelevant. They've proved their point.

You see my main problem with you is that you're given to making wild statements based on nothing more than your predjudiced opinion. There is as much evidence to suggest that 3D is helping the 3DS's sales as there is to suggest it is hindering them. Literally as much evidence.

Unless you're going to actually produce some market research that firmly establishes consumers' opinions on the 3DS's 3D feature, either way, these "facts" that you're throwing around are little more than hot air.
