The bolded has always made me wonder though. Why would it be necessary to believe in God if it's not a requirement if you want to enter Heaven after you die? If being good to other people is the only requirement then there's no point in having a Bible at all.


Because most people are weak and need that stick to go along with the carrot.


So, the weak people need to believe in a God while the strong don't need that kind of help?

Weak need the heaven hell and whole bit, where as strong willed who do good regardless just because its the right thing to do could believe in whatever they want and still do the same.

Some people need constant reminder of why they need to choose the moral high ground or they just need the comfort of their view of God. Others are content at just doing good and may even live in regions where there is no God taught to them. 

To me that is all fluff and doesn't matter. Just do the right thing.
