Yuuup. But Ninty quickly rectified that situation by lowering the barrier to entry and increasing its value with high quality software.
Sony doesn't have the ability to lower the barrier of entry as they are not currently profitable. Sony doesn't have the first party software to really distinguish itself from 3DS and the multitude of other mobile entertainment devices.
Sony's biggest issue with all of their portable gaming is the lack of real portable games that are not clones or ports of home consoles. It needs something to distinguish itself beyond portability. It needs its Pokemon.... great with what I've seen in motion sports, kart racing, and brawling... I guess I now know what the next inspired game will be.
