Thats exactly the reason why I think the route BO2 is going down (choices in campaign, non-linear gameplay, sandbox elements, the missions you do affect the overall outcome of the game, multiple endings, many drivable vehicles, more variety in general) is seriously going to change the way developers approach the FPS genre. And this is just the single player, Co-op and MP are two different games on their won.
COD sales aren't going to die down significantly anytime soon but because they are changing the standards that they themselves had set on the genre, it will make other devs hopefully consider also expanding on their own games trying something innovative rather than just copy pasting what COD does.
