I had great fun with Kinect (mind you, I think 360 is most unappealing to me of the 3, not that one of them is very appealing), so yes, it was a success.
But as Rol said, it's pretty much for two kind of games, dancing and sports. I recently played Joyride, and while it's fun for 10 minutes, it's gameplay hell.
