To be honest, i don`t know who messed up the most: Sony or Nintendo.
Sony started really bad, specially after winning the previous generation so easily. After that, how could Sony do so wrong? Sony failed because they thought that they could reinvent the wheel again. First they brought the DVD to the masses, now they would bring Blue-ray. An overpriced console is still an overpriced console no matter how powerful.
And going against the Wii? That didn`t help it either. And the first desing of the console was just bad.
Still, it`s mighty impressive to see how Sony changed things and despite it`s really bad start, bad press it could still put up a fight and be so close to Xbox 360 who came out one year earlier.
Nintendo on the other hand started with a bang. Sold out for monts and months in a row.
Than came 2010 and the games started being absent from Wii`s release schedule.
Nintendo, not just 3rd parties had no good games since DKCR. The only two system sellers were Zelda and Mario and Sonic.
Nintendo stopped selling the console: no great system sellers, no redesigns, no Wii with different colours, nothing major to try and push the console. No Zelda bundle? No MP9 bundle with an extra remote? No more Nintendo Selects?
