People talk about the price of the PS3 being the main problem, which is undoubtedly true, however their were additional major contributing factors.

If the PS3 had released at a lower cost, say in line with that of the Xbox, then the PS3's first years on the market would have perhaps been better. However I dont believe this would have had an effect on the success of the Wii. The Wii managed to carve out a totally new market...bringing a host of new casual players to the console market.

This would have effected the 360's initial success perhaps, but not for long. The 360 did so many things right this gen. Great graphics off the bat, new IP's that had addictive online play, a proper online infrastructure, etc.

My point is, many people blame Sony for the downfall of the Playstation brand this gen, which is true to an extent. However the strong competition and innovation of their competitors would have ultimately led to a decrease in market share this gen for Sony. It was unavoidable imo.
