I imagine that there are (quite realistically) national defense scenarios involving unstoppable pandemics that involve the use of thermonuclear weaponry to make sure that things are contained if it really came down to it. Thus all you have to do in the event of a zombie outbreak is get well out of the region you're in.

Or get on a boat. I don't understand why these zombie series never seem to involve "run to a port, get a ship, go to island, win."
