@D21. A gun is meant to kill. Your analogy would work if it was "Guns are out of clips and pistol-whip people"

Yes. That's what a gun is for. Just like a sword, battle axe, knife, bow and arrow, etc. That's why I own one. So that I can kill somebody if it ever comes down to it. A gun is a tool and its purpose is killing.
Now, does having a gun make me a killer? Of course not. Has my gun killed anybody? Not yet. Keep in mind, I'm not a gun fanatic. Prior to being a cop, I didn't own one. In fact, the gun I own was issued to me by my department. But, suppose I did kill somebody. Would the jury blame me or would they blame my gun? The intention to kill was mine. The gun was the tool that I used to carry out my intention.

the thing is just, that guns make it so incredibly easy to kill somebody that we don't doubt for a second that a 4 and 1/2 year old could do it

Hence the reason why most people don't leave guns, hand grenades, bleach, knives, small toys, etc. where a child can reach them. Kids don't know any better. The gun did exactly what it was supposed to do. It killed. No malfunctions or anything. The father didn't do what he should have done--keep his death tool out of the reach of a four year old.
