If gamers really cared about graphics they wouldn't be buying Call of Duty in droves and wouldn't be gaming on a console.
However, with that said... When a game does feature cutting edge graphics... Their is allot of word of mouth which can translate into some sales. Aka. Crysis 1 and Battlefield 3 for example.
