I don't think Microsoft would have been smart to let anyone make the film externally. If I was Microsoft I would put a 100-million dollar budget behind the film. 25-million to establish 343 Film Studios, I would have purchased a film studio likely one in Vancouver or Seattle. Then after getting the games writers to co-write the script and story board alongside one of the great sci-fi writers found in Canada.

With that new studio and a script I would then shop for a director. A director to direct the film for 343 and Microsoft. The film would carry the 75-million dollar budget and the 343 team working on the games would contribute content to the film. The film would be built from the ground up internally with the best director and actors and everything that my money could buy. Once the film was complete I would then shop for a distributor. Approach the big companies and offer a puny percentage to simply distribute the film. Someone would be willing to distribute the film for 5% royalties. The movie will have been fully made and Lions Gate or Alliance Atlantis would snap it up if Paramount or Universal...etc..etc.. did not.

Fact is the film should be built internally. Their is absolutely no reason that 343 couldn't launch a film division that actually produces Halo films. The studio under 343 could make live action commercials, could produce the live action film series, could probably produce a live Action TV show if the films were successful enough.

After seeing the Halo anime. You can see the franchises potential on film. All that is needed is for Microsoft to take the film internal.

What is 100-million to Microsoft? With a film that could gross a billion dollars life time. Where is the downside. Not to mention Microsoft should be in the film industry it fits perfectly with their strategy take over the living room. EA sees the potential, UbiSoft sees the potential, Sony has always seen the potential, Nintendo even sees limited potential. Film companies like WarnerBros and Disney have seen gaming integration with film as massively potential. Microsoft is insane not to be taking full advantage of their IP before it gets old if it ever does.
