It adds a meta game to it all, which is cool when you begin and when everyone is playing games for enjoyment and to compare to friends. Though when it becomes your soul purpose to play a game that you would never have any interest in playing or knowing that you are only playing a game just because of how easy a games trophies/achievements are to acquire (avatar the last airbender and Hannah Montana come to mind) then you are truly lost and lost the meaning of why to play video games.
I know. I was a achievement whore in WoW. Though, I did get some fun vanity item from some of them, and I guess getting that background from FF13 was kinda cool. More vanity items related to the game should be acquired from achievements/ trophies IMO.
