At the top end of the spectrum, the Gamecube and XBox faired pretty well for games; together, Nintendo and Microsoft brough many (most) of the generation defining games.
Where the PS2 dominated was games which most people on this site would consider bad; most uninformed gamers walked into a store and saw a wall with countless Movie and TV show tie-ins and assumed that, because they knew the names of these games, that the PS2 had the best line-up.
