Yeah but let's be honest, that's just a pain in the ass, isn't it?

Instead, making new characters can be about getting all those "first kill rare drops".

In D2, in order to be competitive at inferno difficulty, you really had to abide to an exact formula. It was kind of a huge hassle and if you misclick? Oh god help you if you misclicked.

I'm sure I'll love it once I get my hands on the game (soon... soon!) but in the current DII patch you can restat your character 3 times so you can afford to make errors and to build a cold only sorceress to play in Normal and change her completely when you reach Nightmare and have to deal with Cold Immune monsters.

Actually, with the added Essence drops in Hell (from Andy/Duriel, Mephisto, Diablo and Baal), you can essentially have an infinite number of restats, excluding the 3 quest reward ones.

While I haven't used any single one of them (I'm now currently playing a Meteorb sorc, giving my level 90 summomancer a rest) since I plan my characters from scratch and I'm very careful when selecting skills, it still a very useful tool for a lot of situations, especially the one that theprof00 said. Those horrible misclicks were a cause of much grievances in the past.

Being able to change your build on the fly on DIII seems to be a very nice addition allowing you to adapt easily to any situation. While veteran Diablo players will use that ability fewer times, it will help the newcomers to the series a lot. And trust me, there'll be a lot of newcomers to DIII mostly because on the hype it has generated over the years.
