First their goalie acts like he just got hit by a tank, getting Shaw suspended 3 games, now Torres completely decks Hossa, sending him to the hospital and winning the game at our place in OT, that very well could have been ours had Hossa not been injured. There needs to be some major retaliation.. |
Yeah I don't know why Mike Smith exaggerated the hit so much, but it was still a dirty ass hit by Shaw. Chicago knows Phoenix is a team that relies on defense and goaltending so taking a run at their goalie like that is completely classless. I fully support the 3 game suspension, if Smith was injured it should have been longer.
As for the Torres hit, it was clean as a whistle. He didn't leave his feet until contact was made. Sadly the league will probably still give him a game suspension for that clean hit because of his previous record of suspensions/fines.
And as for "there needs to be major retaliation", Torres' hit on Hossa could well have been the retaliation you're talking about, for the cheap shot on Smith.

eh I guess, but to me it didn't look like Shaw hit him hard at all.. I know that your not supposed to hit the goalie, and I also know that Smith knows this, and milked that hit for all it was worth, helped to draw the contact and make it look a lot worse than it actually was by flopping. Certainly didn't equal the supposed retaliation of Torres practically tackling hossa.

I've watched the Hossa hit a couple more times now and I do agree it was dirty. I think it would normally be a 1-2 game suspension type hit but with Torres' record probably 5 games easily.
But I still stand by the hit on Smith being dirty (the fact Smith exaggerated it so much doesn't change the hit). Shaw wasn't forced into Smith, he was able to pick his own path and instead of trying to make any type of play for the puck he turns into smith and launches his shoulder up into Smith's head. Definitely a dirty play.
