I don't think power has really ever stifled creativity or quality of games. If anything ever generation has created better games than in the past. Over time people tend to forget about how many crappy games there were. And even the good ones, back then we easily forgave bad level design or gameplay mechanics because there just wasn't anything to really compare them to and developers were limited by the hardware they were using. Go back a gen or two and play some games, yes there are classics that will be for the most part timeless, but for every one of those games there are dozens of unkown titles that are just completly terrible. Not just by todays standards either, back then they sucked as well but developers could get away with that kind of stuff.

There's a bunch of those this gen too, Level design and gameplay  hasnt really improved or shown any meaningful changes over last gen even tough hardware is better, many sequels for example fail to impress as much as their old gen predecessors did, and not becasue they are uglier games.

Also what's with the "developers could get away with that kind of stuff"?
