Very interesting if true. I've been predicting this for some time, and Nintendo's recent moves with 3DS.WiiU tend to show they were as well (insider knowledge?).

To those saying the industry can't support four - hogwash. Look at how well it's supporting three this gen. None are suffering or living off scraps. Sure Sony/MS took a bloodbath to get into this gen but that's their poor business practises. Nintendo won without taking any losses, so it proves it's simply not necessary to do so.

Besides if Apple is as innovative here as they were with ipod, iphone and ipad they will signifigantly expand the market - just like they did with all of those devices. They will create their own market, much like Nintendo did with the DS and Wii.

As for not having 1st party games. So what? They have an immense army of game developers making games for iOS now, including most console game publishers. MS barely has an 1st party development left either.

I also suspect an iplay (or whatever it's called) would be a lot more than just a gaming device, much like an iphone was a lot more than a phone (and outdid all other smart phones at the time). So games alone won't be selling it.

Personally I welcome Apple into the market, it will continue what the Wii started and MS is doing with Kinect - making games accessible and fun for everyone. In the end that's a good thing for everyone.

Industry can't support 4 is historical. Whenever there's been more than 3 consoles, the "excess" consoles were all dismal failures: Neo Geo, 3DO, Jaguar, Dreamcast

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
