Yep unfortunetly the only way the hardware manufacturers can do anything is if they all coordinate. Meaning all three hardware companies put locks into their hardware to avoid used games from being played. Unfortunately for MS or Sony if they implement locks and Nintendo does Nintendo will crush them. Retailers will promote the hardware that allows used games. So WiiU/3DS would get 50% of the shelf space if not slightly more. GameStop/BestBuy etc..etc.. would do everything they can to promote the platforms that allow used game sales. Attempts by publishers and developers will not work the online passes won't stop GameStop from selling the used games. The only way I see publishers getting rid of used sales entirely is to switch completely to downloadable content. But that too would be very difficult to do.

Used game sales will continue to be an issue for at least another two generations!

Expanding on my previous post.

If both HD consoles provide what publishers wants for used games, do you really think they will put all the stops to make all their titles available on the platform that doesn't ? I seriously doubt it. If Nintendo doesn't do something for used games but the other 2 consoles do you can be sure that third party support on Wii U will be as bad or worse than what the Wii got......... ( which is probably why Microsoft and Sony are looking so seriously at this, anything that can handicap Nintendo is good for them and the Wii U is probably too far along now to incorporate this..)

PS3-Xbox360 gap : 1.5 millions and going up in PS3 favor !

PS3-Wii gap : 20 millions and going down !
