Wait I don't understand what these analysts and arm chair analysts wanted out of this presentation...did anyone actually expect him to give out the details on ALL the steps that he is going to make at this time? Right after the 10k job cut? LOL people must think this man is an idiot or something to do that. I think the fact that some drastic measures have been taken already and also the fact that he is practically saying such cuts/changes will continue is good enough. Kaz himself is taking over the tv division which instills confidence in the shareholders which combined with the above factors increased their stock value. It's not rocket science.

The tv division needs some major changes and sony does need to come up with things to wow others, even if they are considered as gimicks by some. It will help them improve their brand image. sounds like Kaz understands this too. Best of luck to him

If you start researching Sony's plight, its problems even pre-date when the company put a TV news producer in charge (Howard Stringer won nine Emmys at CBS).

But just remember, Kaz thought the PS3 would keep the PS2's marketshare, despite its price, six years ago. So hopefully, he can see more clearly the realities  of the world now.

the two things you mentioned have absolutely not relevance to my statement :S not sure what your point is

stringer was a bad choice in hindsight for sure

it's called PR. Surely you're not clueless about this. All companies do this, ms, ninty, apple etc. Sony is no different. I think you need a reality check on what people do in different roles

MUGEN from PDX (btw why do you keep saying this mike from morgantown bit? 0_o is that like a signature of something?)

My point on Stringer was (1) he was not the person to change things as he did not have the business background and (2) the problems at Sony are long-standing.  To be honest, Stringer was hailed when he came in and Sony was complemented for thinking outside the box and going with a non-Japanese CEO.  Afrer all, he replaced Ken "get a second job to pay for your PS3" Kutaragi.

My other point was that not everything that the Playstation unit has done has gone according to plan. So putting blind trust in Kazuo Hirai because of his work with that brand could be foolish. (Putting bind faith in any person running a business is generally foolish).  And YES, I know what PR is and certainly there was some of that in his statement. I probably should have cited something with a bit more resonance that PR speak -- like the PSP-Go or Move (both of which I thought were unwise and let the local Sony rep know when I saw her stocking my local Gamestop).

Finally, I have used my tag line as long as I have been on this site.  The few times I have omitted it, I have been asked about it.

Hope all is well in Portland -- but be careful of Mr. Burns nucelar plant 100 miles to your south.

I'm not saying anyone should, (I certainly am not) should put blind faith in the guy. But so far he has been making the right moves so hopefully he will keep doing so

Burns? was that a simpsons reference? :S
