They'll always have an audience for their own internally developed games, and so long as those games are only published for hardware platforms they design and sell themselves, there will be a market for those platforms, but it will be a reduced market relative to what they've had in the past.

You're looking in the present. I'm looking 5-10 years down the line post 3DS when kids who are just being introduced to gaming now start buying their own games/entertainment. 

You say you're looking down the road, but handhelds haven't been on a decline.  You are giving your opinion without any statistics or proof to back it up.  YOu say I'm talking with my heart but I can actually state facts to show you what I'm talking about.  You have yet to name titles that reach success.  People love mario, zelda, pokemon, etc and this is the reason 3DS and nintendo systems will continue to sell.  SOFTWARE SELLS HARDWARE.  And as i stated above this is not a contest with Apple when they are not even in the gaming industry.  People don't buy iphones and ipods for games.  They just happen to have 99 cent games on them that people will buy time from time because thy are bored.
