The PS3 was doomed. But no one expected Sony to be willing to make a constant loss with PS3 and make price cuts. Even now Sony looses money with PS3. But the same think will not happen with the Vita because Sonys financial situation is very poor now.
Vita? Look at the sales and look at the announced games. There is not the slightest view of a system seller and the game that should had been a system seller in US & Europe (Uncharted) screwed up.
On the other hand: The 3DS gets one big game after the other and has already very high sales.
