Definitely No More Heroes, like some others have said. I can't think of too many other recent games that deserve to be discussed. Uncharted maybe? It's easily the best ps3 game to date, but it's already sold 1 mil., so it's not like it's being ignored.
As for past games, you should check out the Way of the Samurai for ps2. I loved this game, though most people have never heard of it. I need to grab WotS2 off of ebay one of these days.
Shadow of teh Colossus is another gem for the ps2 (as is it's predecessor, Ico), and I think it sold close to 2 mil. in the end. VGChartz has the NA numbers at over 700k, but the JP and EU numbers aren't up yet.
