future proofing the console is the point, not power for power sake. 4k resolution means nothing now sure but 6-7 years from now not the same case at all. they're not bleeding money anymore which is why the post makes no sense, the cost of the ps3 was 850 dollars roughly, and sold for 250 dollars less than what it was worth, yet the vita is only 150 dollars as per cost of components. This is completely different, the Vita is extremely powerful without the losing money part which is why Sony isn't worried about the sales as of now, launch is launch, and more often than not no indication of how a console will turn out which is something Sony knows all about. Please stop this futureproof marketing talk. It turned out that the Xbox 360 was just as futureproofed as the PS3 and MS making an overall profitable business. Heck even the Wii was just as futureproofed as the PS3. So all these technical advantages over the Wii were good for releasing the console one year later.
All this futureproofed nonsense is only mentioned for the videogame industry. Will the iPad 3 be futureproofed? Probably not, because there will be the iPad 4 in 12 - 24 months. It is not about the specs anymore.
LoL at 4k resolution might be coming up in 6-7 years. You know what else is coming up in 6-7 years? The PS5. (And I highly doubt there will be 4k games to begin with).
Imagine not having GamePass on your console...
