Remember that. It's one of the most basic principles of maths.

What is wrong with that equation.  You simply do what is in parenthesis first always before subtracting it.

The parenthesis is redundant, because multiplications have to be executed before substractions by default.

Ah well, in USA we are too stupid to know that so we put parenthesis in our math equations to help our simple minded population out.
