Sergiodaly, the problem with your prediction isn't cost but power consumption and heat dissipation. A 180 watt GPU at 28 nm processing will not be 100 watt next year even with upcoming 22/20 nm processing.

that is why i use the term, modified
they can bring the GPU clock speed down and bring the memories speed down... also, that power output is for the entire card, and here sony will only use the GPU, and mems, the rest could be taken down or rearranged in the motherboard...

they cut by half the power used by ps3 from the 1st fat to the 2nd slim... until then same things could be done to improve the power usage!

lots can happen until then!

So...basically a mid-range 7xxx and not a high end 7950 like you suggested?

They're not going to magically cut down the power consumption on a 150 - 200 watt GPU to stick it in a 2013 console.

Viper is right, you people asking for 7900/ GTX 680 equivalent GPUs are dreaming.

ps3 and xbox 360 have GPUs based on high end GPUs, why will PS4 or Xbox 720 be different... based does not mean equal... my point in using the 7950 as a example has to be with the number of processing units and not so much with memory bus, (witch the 386 bit used in the card is not needed IMO), GPU clock; with that lowered a bit, the number of GPUs usable from the production process will be greater (meaning cheaper overall). this way games could have more things on screen versus the the need to push over the full hd resolution and the screen refreshing speed.
Xenos for example is based in a r500 ati GPU but moded to have more unified shaders than the rest of the r500 family. here if AMD start with a already high count processing units will be easier to moded it to the console needs (more processing units, less GPU speed and lower memory bus)

this could be packed in a 120 whatt envelope by mid year 2013 (time when full production of Orbis will start)
