I just think too many people cry about too many things. This anti-piracy solution is far better than a rootkit. Granted, I think the key code was just fine and more than enough to limit piracy to only the worst offenders. |
Everyone have different standards. It's my choice to not allow them to push stupid restriction on me. It's a single player game, not MMO.
Civ5 does not requires always online. Unless I've been tricked?

It requires steam connection which means online.

I don't think it requires always-on connection, though.
I'll give it a try later. Hadn't played it for quite sometime.

You only need to be online for the initial installation, then it works in off-line mode too.
Civ and SimCity are perfect for long flights. I guess not the new sim city.
